Gluten Free Sunshine Coast

Well the Gluten Free Kiwi is on holiday with her family!
And The Sunshine Coast of Australia... is a great place
for any Gluten Free Kiwi To Holiday!

I am having a fab time, sun, surf, sand!

The weather has been perfect since I got here, warm, so I have slapped on the sunscreen and am currently out on the deck, picking up the wireless signal for my computer from a shop down the road! Fantastic!

Although I am on holiday, I have been on a gluten free mission, and reviews heaps of places around Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.

Since I got here, I have been pleased with the amount of gluten free places to dine out, and found it really easy!

My only problem is that the apartment I am staying in has super sensitive smoke detectors, and you get a fine if you set them off, so I am a bit scared of cooking, so its lots of salads and cold foods... and If I want something warm... Someone else can cook it for me!

Here are just a few Gluten Free Spots I have found in My Travels:

When I first arrived into Brisbane... I was Skeptical about gluten free choices, but as soon as i got up the coast, things were great.

Brisbane:

Brisbane Airport

Mooloolaba:

Cracked Pepper Brassiree and Bar

The Thai Season Mooloolaba

Coles Supermarket

Starbucks

Juice Bar

Jamacian Blue

Maroochydore:

Starbucks Sunshine Plaza

Muffin Break Sunshine Plaza

I have been here for 3 days so far, and am looking forward to going to the seafood festival tonight, I walked past them setting everything up this morning when I was walking along the beach! Should be fun, and I hope there is some gluten free seafood for me!

I will keep you updated on my gluten free finds!

Day 3 San Francisco

Well day three American time of my gluten free road trip... and I have taken a decent look at the shops. I am trying to keep in mind I have to lug my huge pack around for another month, and that its winter at home... but there are so many cute shoes, handbags, tshirts... to buy... And I Want Them All!!

So How Is The Gluten Free Stuff Going?

Well I was off to a ruff start, but have finally started finding some gluten free food, today I went to what I assume is a gormet style grocer here, it was on the bottom floor of westfeild mall in the san francisco center. The selection of protein bars had a few gluten free items... the one i tried today was kindah like chewing chocolate covered tinfoil... but got some great fruit and sushi without gluten in the rice vinegar... so all and all.

My body is slowly balancing out due to the time change, lack of sleep, and installment of gluten on the plane... hopefully my ecezma will all be gone soon!

Whats next on the agenda?

Well I am off for spanish tapis for dinner a wee way down the road with my friends friend for dinner, then a pub crawl at my hostel... so should b interesting seeing if i can find some gluten free goodies.

Have another two friends coming over tomorrow, then its off the new york the day after that... very exciting... I have to last, I am travelling with a guy, and I keep getting asked if he is my husband... bizzar, hes a work mate of my flatmate who I hardly know, so is a weird notion.

Anyway enough from this gluten free kiwi.

until next time
goodbye

Gluten Free Kiwis San Francisco Road Trip

Well... After 12 hours on a plane, I am In San Fransico... And What a Crazy Day I Have Had So Far.

The gluten free eating has not gone so well to date, the airline (travel agent and check in person) Did not have my gluten free meals, even thou I asked them to check it was gluten and dairy free. They gave me vegetarian meals for dinner and breakfast, and assured me there was no gluten in them... But the mere fact that there was a bread roll on the plate made me think they had no idea what wheat free means!

So another 10 hours of upset tummy on the plane, and I arrived in San Francisco with a brand new band of ecezma on my face, and dryyyyyy skin... Best thing after that... No Running water at my hostel what so ever until 7pm, then it was FREEZING cold, and only turned on for another few hours... then no water at all until midnight... Not the best thing to arrive to when you have scummed yourself up nicely on the plane.

But its all Okay... Thing have improved since then, and I really like this city, it has a nice vibe about it, nice coastal, good climate... good to be away from the crisp snowy air of New Zealand for now.

So yesterday I set out for a walk with a friend in an aim to navigate ourself around... many hills were walked, photos taken... breathtaking scenery, and friendly people.

My Most pleasing discovery, was that they can make a decent cup of coffee over here... brilliant for me who has not slept in 2 days... hence my current blogging to keep myself awake until an acceptable sleeping hour.

So many cute shoes, necklaces, tops... and more! I really need to attack the shops again soon.

Went to china town for dinner... I knew I could Pick myself something gluten free over here, so opted for beef with steamed veges and wine, came out with green tea, and it was tasty! So now my tummy is pretty happy, have managed to find a variation of gluten free munchies... and the seasonal fruit is superb at the moment.... Best thing about San Frans Hills is... no feeling guilty about cheating on my diet... I walk off all the calories and then some.

Had a few wines with a few fellow travellers at the hostel last night, talked a lot about nothing, and soaked up the hostel atmosphere, other then the lack of running water its a pretty cool place.

The Wine Tour

Today I have been up and going since around 6am As i could not sleep last night... stupid body clock! Who knew such breathtaking scenery and a calm atmosphere was just a stones throw from the buzzing metropolis San Fran. 3 wineries, and a nine hour bus trip... with a difference, it was not all about wine, I swear I have never met anyone who knew so much random information about a city, learned all about San Fran, Its history, inhabitants, celebrity property owners, films made there, plus heaps more.

You can defineatly tell the difference between American and New Zealand Wine... I never knew how different wine could tast until lately... what a great tour, I would recommended it to anyone! Pity they cannot ship to New Zealand... I am definatly going to look out for a few wines at home in the stores.

God a free meal coupon for dinner tonight... it was great.. and Lucy friendly, Corn Tortia with chorizo and salad, along with some chilli and lime soup... delicious... Soo Full!

Well my brain is lagging from lack of sleep, will keep the blog updated while i'm away so you can hear some more on gluten free travel...

The Old Vicaridge Christchurch

This morning I had the pleasure of heading to the old vicarage in Haswell Christchurch for brunch, and man did i get brunch. Firstly i question the menu as it stated no gluten free option, but after enquiring with the waitress, I found out you can simply request meals to be gluten free, this meant lots of options! Very impressive.

My Order

I ordered the Eggs Benedict, with Smoked Ham, on 2 Home Made Has browns, What can I say, It looked amazing, and tasted even better, Huge servings, I only ate half, and defiantly not gluten, as my tummy feels great!

**** the old vicarage, well done! The coffee was not half bad either, Id defiantly dine there again! I recommend you ask for a half serving if you get the eggs Benedict thou! Its more then a mouthful

Gluten Free Cupboard

I know how hard it is to get all the ingredients you need to bake, my flat mates always at me, to go get gluten free baking goods, so she can bake for me (ठाट's right shes going to cook for me which should be incentive enough) But the supermarket does not stock some of the speciality items I need. ठाट'एस why I find shopping online so amazing, now that amazon sells food online, it means you can get a huge range of gluten free stuff shipped from overseas. WAHOO!

Which means new and interesting Items to choose from! It is for this reason that I have set up a range of gluten free items in my Gluten Free Cupboard.
